I often get asked whether Hypnosis can be carried out in a noisy, distracting environment.
This really isn’t a problem provided the person being Hypnotised is still able to focus on what the Hypnotist is saying and able to follow instructions.
You don’t only encounter distractions on the street or on stage. Distractions are everywhere and some Hypnotists will even use the background noise as part of the Hypnosis. e.g. “Every car you hear pass just lets you focus more.”
My own office joins on to a hairdressers and my friend Nadine the hairdresser is a lively, funny person with a lovely, loud laugh always joking with her clients, making them laugh too.
Sometimes, someone is so focused, these background noises don’t even matter.
I was recently asked to perform Hypnosis at the Wildfoods Festival in Hokitika (See http://www.wildfoods.co.nz/) and in this video, you’ll hear the background noise and see the volunteer’s friends trying to distract us.
I can tell however, that even though her eyes are looking around a little, her head is often slightly leaned to one side and she is still listening intently and following my instructions well. That’s why I chose her over the others.
I congratulate her on her level of focus, without even mentioning all the distractions and you can see how well this works.
The girls in the video know I’m a Hypnotist and I’ve edited it slightly to remove some of the very loud interruptions picked up by the camera microphone.
I’ve also removed the final “wake-up” but otherwise, this is pretty much what happened from beginning to end:

Brill stuff. Pity about the sound though. Some interesting things were happening with the audience. Even though you did almost nothing with her they were fascinated.

Thanks for the comment Jon,
This was one of many on the day of the festival. On these occasions the video is always secondary to the Hypnosis going on.
The reactions in the crowd were interesting. People are so used to seeing it on stage in big theatres or on TV here, but not close-up like that. I’ve said it before but in that kind of setting, even re-inductions/instant sleeps get a good reaction and keep their attention.
Plus, I like to think I know a thing or two about holding a crowd’s attention when it comes to putting on an effective show. I’ve had some good teachers, as you know!
Got some great feedback from lots of those people when I bumped into them later on in the day too, after I’d finished “work.”
Thanks again,
Reg

Great stuff! I couldn’t hear all that you were saying, but saw how effective you are and how you led her into hypnosis despite the distractions. I bet you could have put a few of the bystanders under too, they were obviously captivated by what was going on! I’ll be ordering your DVD this week, thanks for sharing!

Thanks Joseph,
Sorry about the sound.
The funny thing is, I arrived at the showground with both a lapel mic and a headset mic in my bag, but once I started Hypnotising, my partner started the camera rolling and we forgot all about them!
Ah well, if I had professionally produced and edited videos of Street Hypnosis on Youtube, even more people than now would think it was all a set-up.
Cheers!
Reg
